PHYSICAL EXAMS

 

We do more than simply treat your pet; we offer professional consultations to improve your animal's diet, health, and behaviour.

SURGERY

 

Our veterinarians’ high level of expertise and our practice’s fully equipped surgical suite allows us to perform the vast majority of surgical procedures that your pet may require. It includes procedures such as desexing, exploratory laporotomies, caesareans, lump removals, biopsies, wound stitch-ups, removal of intestinal foreign bodies and orthopaedic surgeries (fractures, ligament repairs, amputation). Many complicated surgeries are still done in the clinic, where we call on a surgical specialist.

EMERGENCY CARE

 

Sometimes emergencies happen. We know your pets and animals are important to you, so we will always do our best to accommodate for these situations.

IMAGING

 

Our clinic uses a digital radiography system, which reduces radiation exposure to pets and veterinarians without sacrificing clear, high-quality diagnostic images. We are able to obtain high-definition X-rays in under 10 seconds. X-rays are an important tool for properly assessing a variety of conditions like lameness, coughing, heart disease or foreign body ingestion. 

MICROCHIPPING

 

If your pet is not microchipped please give us a call to make an appointment to have one inserted.  If you find a lost pet please call us to arrange a scan, we can reunite microchipped pets with their worried owners.

VACCINATIONS

 

It is essential that all pets are adequately vaccinated to help protect the pet population as a whole. Responsible pet care requires puppies & kittens to be given their initial course of vaccinations, but this cannot protect them for the rest of their lives. Adult dogs & cats require regular vaccination to maintain immunity against disease.

LARGE ANIMALS

 

We have a limited large animal service and can visit properties where the animals are kept or see them at the clinic. We see goats, sheep, alpacas and cattle.

DENTAL CARE

 

Just like humans, our pets are vulnerable to gum disease and problems with their teeth. Dental disease results in many pets unnecessarily suffering tooth loss, gum infection and pain. We are fully equipped with dental x ray and the most up to date dental equipment to carry out any dental procedures your pet may require, and our staff will be able to provide you with some information, tips and products on how to help prevent dental disease

OUR CLINIC

The Galston Veterinary Clinic team is made up of dedicated vets and nurses that have been providing phenomenal veterinary care to our clients over the last 30 years. The area we cover includes but isn't limited to Galston, Dural, Arcadia, Berrilee, Glenorie, Kenthurst and Annangrove. We have experience in both small and large animals; and time to provide the best possible treatment options available.

Our clinic has been specially designed to provide a comprehensive range of treatment which includes full surgical facilities, dog & cat hospital areas, x-ray facilities, ultrasound, full dental unit and a full in house pathology lab. The clinic is fully air conditioned to keep your pets comfortable while in our care.

Dr Sandra Read BVSc

Sandy has been an adored locum vet at our clinic for over 17 years. Sandy is now the new proud owner of Galston Veterinary Clinic who bought the clinic from Andrew Miller as of September 2023. Sandy graduated from the University of Sydney in 1998. After brief stints in horse practice in the Hunter and a mixed practice in England, she returned to small animal practice in 2002.


Sandy is a local to the area along with her  Cattle Dog 'Millie' charming Burmese 'Percival and Wulfric' and French Bulldog 'Minette'. Her interests are cats and all things small – rabbits, ferrets, mice and rats. In her spare time, Sandy can be found most weekends near a golf course watching her son play.

Kathy is a Sydney University 2000 graduate and has qualifications in Avian (birds) medicine. She enjoys all exotic species. She is local to Galston but has practiced in Griffith and in exotic hospitals.

Valerie graduated from James Cook University in Townsville and has been a part of the Galston team since the end of 2023. She has a keen interest in surgery and medicine in small animals and she is happy to see anything that walks, flies or hops into the clinic. In her spare time she can be found at the park with her Cobberdog "Charlie" and Havanese "Maple".

Chelsea 
Veterinary Nurse

Chelsea has completed her Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing and has been a qualified nurse since 2018. She joined our team in March 2020 and is always ready to learn new things. Chelsea always puts her patients first and makes sure they are comfortable whilst in our care. In her spare time she enjoys hanging with family and friends, keeping active and taking photos of nature and wildlife.

Trinidy 
Veterinary Nurse

Trinidy has completed Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing and started working full time with us in April 2022. She has been with us since Feb 2020. She has always wanted to be a Vet Nurse as she loves helping animals. At home she loves reading and spending time with her family and pets.

Amelia
Veterinary Nurse

Amelia is a Cert IV Veterinary Nurse who completed her qualification at the end of 2023. Amelia started working with us full time in January 2024. Growing up locally, her interest in animal care stems from the desire to make a positive impact in the lives of our furry friends. At home she has a senior Cavalier King Charles and two Scottish Highland cows

Kyanne  
Veterinary Nurse

Kyanne has completed her Cert IV in Veterinary Nursing and started working full time with us in April 2021. She has always been an animal lover and has a keen interest in wildlife and large animals. At home she is Mum to a beautiful Staffy named Marlee.

Christine  
Dog Trainer

Christine is our resident dog trainer and runs our puppy school classes on Saturday mornings. She is trained in positive reinforcement techniques.

Danielle 
Veterinary Nurse

Danielle is our locum nurse. She has 16 years of small animal nursing experience and 15 years equine nursing experience. She is mum to William and Jetzio. Danielle lives in the Hunter Valley but helps us with nurse training and locuming for staff holidays.

Chief of Office

Misty came to us at the end of 2016 in a bad way and with a very special Christmas surprise in her belly, 6 kittens! After her kittens were adopted, she took residence here at Galston Vet and has since become the boss. You can generally find her lazing around on the reception counter.
